How can I reuse or recycle … crisp packets?

Crisp packetAt any one time, there are at least two or three crisp (potato chips) packets blowing around our street, invariably ending up in our garden or making “fffffwhpp” sounds as they rattle against the railings at the end of the road.

I remember making shrinky-dinks out of them when I was a kid but aside from that, I can’t think of any other ideas about what can be done with them. (And I don’t even know whether you can do that with the foil lined packets kicking around now.)

So is anyone else more inspired about what can be done with them? Suggestions for big “family size” packets as well as standard ones are welcome.

(And in case anyone else other than me is interested, this is the 250th post on here – that’s a whole lot of reusing and recycling ideas! I’m think I’m going to celebrate with some salty potato snacks!)

How can I reuse or recycle deflated balloons?

balloon250.jpgWe’ve had an email from Rona:

My daughter turned 13 last week and got some of those helium balloons from members of the family to celebrate her new teenage status. They’re slowly going down now and we don’t know what to do with them when they’re done. Can the foil be recycled like tin foil?

I suspect (but could very easily be wrong) that it’s more like shiny plastic than actual foil so recycling like that is probably out of the question – but does anyone know otherwise?

I used to like keeping that sort of thing but didn’t do anything creative with them – just folded them up in a box. Does anyone have any crafty ideas for using them?

Or what about normal balloons? Any practical or craft-y reuses for them?

How can I reuse or recycle … tablet blister packs?

blister_pack.jpgJohn pulled a muscle in his neck last weekend so has been sucking down ibuprofen tablets all this week.

Like the powdered baby milk containers, the blister packs are mixed materials – plastic for the “blisters” and foil underneath – does anyone know if they can be recycled?

Or anyone clever reuses for the blister bits? They’re so small – and without a “lid” once the foil has been popped – that I can’t imagine there would be many uses but I hate to think of anything as lacking a reuse. So suggestions?

How can I reuse or recycle excessive Easter egg packaging?

easter_eggs250.jpgThis isn’t a real post just an advert for those who are currently feeling slightly sick after eating too much chocolate this morning.

We covered excessive Easter egg packaging last year but are still keen to hear your ideas and suggestions.

The cardboard can usually be recycled and the foil reused in a number of crafty ways but what about the plastic?

How can I reuse or recycle … foil pet food trays?

Aluminium foil trayHad an email from a fellow cat fan Jo White:

Our two cats are developing increasingly sophisticated appetites….they still have canned food but do occasionally like to have the food that comes in small foil trays. I’m loathe to throw them out and I don’t have a garden so re-using them for plant seedlings isn’t a solution unfortunately. Can they be recycled anywhere in the UK?

If they’re just foil, I think they can be recycled along with aluminium foil – is that right? if not, can they be recycled any other way?

And what about reuses? Any non-gardeny suggestions for Jo?
