How can I reuse or recycle … a little basket?

little_basket.jpgWe’ve had an email from Annie about a little find of hers:

I’m not sure what to call this, its a little basket that was in a tub of feta cheese (I rescued it out of the bin!). About 10 cms high and with a ready made hook on the back. There has to be a use for it…

I would worry about using it for heavy things because the hook on the back doesn’t look too sturdy but I would guess there are plenty of holding-things ideas – perhaps tying a loop of string through the loop and hanging it from a washing line for pegs? Using as a (non-hanging) desk tidy?

Anyone got any more creative ideas, particularly using it for things other than just holding stuff? Ideas to take advantage of the squares in the side and the little holes in the bottom maybe?

How about a planter. Line it with moss, add some soil and plunk a few flowers in.

if you have those wire shelves in your kitchen or laundry room, you could hook it on those and keep rags in it.

Ever noticed how vegetables or fruit in plastic containers covered in clingfilm will go off fast, especially mushrooms?
Keep mushrooms in it. Or cherries. Or strawberries.

I find these useful for holding, and draining, soaps.

  9. I would use them for holding tiny soap bars and old toothbrushes for cleaning. Also, they work well in the fridge to hold baking soda tablets or store some cedar chips under the bed or in the closets to keep your place smelling fresh.

    tooth brush holder,
use it for gift giving a little bottle of perfume perhaps.

if you dont like the colour you can weave strips of plastic bags or fabric etc to make it funky. i did this to a mesh bin and i love it now.

Secure it in the corner of a childs raised bed(or top bunk-pillow end)
Both of my kids have these on their midi sleepers where they keep their night time juice/snack.Savws them getting out of bed in the middle of the night if they get thirsty.

pen/pencil holder comes to mind. Also toothbrush holder as said above. You can weave fabric in there and use it as a loose change/pocket empty basket on your dresser or by the door. Give it to kids and they can use it for many things! Planter, candy dish (for wrapped larger candies) etc…
