How can I reuse or recycle … camping fuel canisters?

Camping stoveHad an email from Russ Beebe asking:

How can I recycle … Coleman, JetBoil, and other nonrefillable fuel canisters? Thanks!

I had no idea what they were but thanks to Google, I now think he means camping gas/fuel canisters (is that right, Russ? if not, please correct me!)

I have a feeling this will be a recycle rather than reuse item but any suggestions for either are welcome.

How can I reuse or recycle … old sieves?

SievesWe’ve got a couple of sieves that I’ve had for years. If I remember rightly, I bought a pack of three of them at the 50p shop in Liverpool before inflation hit and the 50p shop turned into a Poundland-esque effort.

Needless to say, they weren’t the finest quality sieves to start with and after years of use, they’re not going to be winning any “best sieve in the world” contests.

They’re flimsy plastic and the edges of the sieve seem to be permanently gacked up with flour/water glue as well as tea stains from being used as a tea strainer so they’re not really suitable for culinary uses any more.

But what can we do with them instead? They’re a bit fine for using in the garden for getting the stones out of soil but I’m sure there must be other possibilities. Any suggestions?

How can I reuse or recycle … old wellies?

Wellington BootsAccording to something I read the other day, Glastonbury Festival organiser Michael Eaves hates all the wellington boots that are abandoned after the mud-fest that is the Glastonbury Festival these days. He apparently said: “I hate to see wellies being ditched. We really need to find a way of recycling them.”

…. So any suggestions?

How can I reuse or recycle … plastic can holder things?

Plastic can holderWe went for a walk in a local wood the other weekend and while we were walking around, I saw one of those plastic things that holds together four packs of (usually drink) cans.

It was still intact so I picked it up to tear it apart (none of the non-existent deers that are supposed to live in that wood would be choke on it on my watch) but as I did so, it made me wonder whether those seagulls-killers have any possible reuses.

Any suggestions?

How can I reuse or recycle cd covers?

CD casesWe got rid of a load of old VCDs the other day (to make room on a shelf for the books that were piled up on the floor).

We already know how to re-use the CDs themselves thanks to the multitude of suggestions a few months ago but what about the cases?

They’re the square(ish) hard but clear plastic type.

Any ideas?
