Advertise on Recycle This

As well as our advertising provided by Google Adsense, Recycle This has a number of ad spots available directly from us.

This page is pretty long but should include all the relevant information you’d need to make a decision to buy an advert on the site. If you’ve got loads of cash to fling around and don’t care about traffic stats or price, you can email us to buy an ad NOW! but if you do care, read on.

Why advertise on Recycle This?

How Can I Recycle This? is a well-established, well-regarded green blog.

Started in 2006, the site has grown steadily over the years in terms of both content and reach. We now cover over 1000 items & 26,000 suggestions in our archive and have been featured/linked to by a variety of national newspapers & magazines, and international green websites. (See About Recycle This for more information.)

Over the years, and with the nature of the site, we’ve developed an enthusiastic community, willing to share their thoughts and ideas.

What sort of traffic does the site generate?

In Q3 (July-September) of 2011, according to Google Analytics, Recycle This averaged over 88,000 unique visitors a month, resulting in over 135,000 page views a month.

We post regularly – typically around four times a week – and use Twitter regularly too (we have over 3700 followers). All our traffic is completely organic – we have a high Google PageRank and links in from prominent sites.

But aren’t all your visitors hippies who don’t buy anything?

Our readers and contributors may well be hippies but few are so self-sufficient that they don’t need to buy anything or use services provided by others. Sure, they’re going to be picky about what they buy – but that’s true about any niche: a greenie isn’t going to buy a super-disposable gadget any more than a hi-tech-aholic is going to buy an old, second-hand mobile phone.

Green products – ethically produced, using recycled or environmentally sustainable materials – work best. Green services to help people recycled more are also very popular.

People have come here to try to make their carbon footprint a little bit smaller – if your product or service helps them do that, they’ll be interested.

What size ad units are available?

We have several standard ad units available for image ads:

Above the Fold

  • Square Button (125 x 125) – at the top of the ‘Resources’ column
  • Medium Square (250 x 250) – at the top of the column on the far right

Embedded In Content

This is usually below the fold but in a very strong position, and has the highest CTR of all our ad units.

  • Large Rectangle (336 x 280) or Medium Rectangle (300 x 250) – between the post and comments

Below the Fold

  • Square Button (125 x 125) – in the ‘Resources’ column, below “Recent Comments”
  • Medium Square (250 x 250) – in the far right column, below the “How Can I Recycle…” pictures

Ad units of other sizes (including leaderboards, skyscrapers and site takeovers) may be available if required – please contact Louisa if you are interested.

What are the rates?

The rate is for a full week/month, sold on a first come first served basis. It is a flat rate sponsorship rather than CPM/CPC. There is no rotation – your ad will be displayed to every visitor to every page of the site. This might change in the future but for now, we’re keeping it simple.

Ad unit 1 week 1 month
Square Button (Above fold) £30 £90
Medium Square (Above fold) £40 £120
In Content Rectangle (either size) £60 £150
Square Button (Below fold) £15 £45
Medium Square (Below fold) £20 £60

What are the payment arrangements?

Payment is currently through Paypal and is needed in advance. Once we have approved your advert and agreed on a starting date, we’ll send you an invoice.

What type of adverts are acceptable/unacceptable?

We encourage image-based adverts and videos where appropriate.

We do not allow adverts that include flash/feature extreme animation, mimic error messages or release pop-ups/pop-unders. Audio – whether on animations or video – should also be user-initiated, not starting as soon as the visitor arrives on the site.

All adverts are subject to our approval.

What about text ads/links?

We are not currently accepting text ads – contextual or links – directly at the moment. Please use Google if you would like to place a text advert with us.

We get a lot of spam from dodgy SEO companies wanting to buy links from us – we’re not interested. We don’t have the time/interest to reply to anyone asking for text ads/links – sorry in advance for ignoring you.

I don’t have enough money to advertise but would like some exposure anyway. Any way we could work something out?

I can’t promise anything but we *might* be able to. We often feature articles on (or links to) interesting reusing/recycling work – artists and upcyclers reusing old materials and waste for new products etc. If your products capture my interest and/or I think they’ll be interesting to the Recycle This community, I’ll push them in an editorial piece rather than an advert.

We also are VERY KEEN to give away sample items of relevant products and services to our readers. We’ve set up a Green Giveaways page, detailing current/recent giveaways – check out that page for further details.

I have more questions!

If you have any questions or would like further information, please send us an email and we’ll get back to you.

I’m looking to start my own blog in the near future

  8. One problem here is that Americans are wrong: Crash aside,
real estate isn’t the easiest thing in the twelve months.
His price was too high, which discourages would-be buyers from even looking at the home s location. You need tto have a quiet bill suburban setting to come home to.
