I searched long and hard for a ‘place’ that would take prescription, vitamin, and medicine, type bottles to recycle and came up with nothing. So, I started thinking about how I could use them to organize. I’ve used them to hold safety pins, needles, seeds, loose buttons, earphones / headsets, my make-up brush fits nicely into one so it drops into my purse staying in perfect shape, bandaides & neosporin (take along), etc. I plan on using them for craft supplies & more sewing items like separating beads, snaps, hooks & eyes and various small easily misplaced items. I printed up mailing lables with each of my grandkids names and use those on their bottles so they have their own little treasure keepers. I’m surprised at how many uses I’ve found for them once I realized no one would take them.

I put holes in them and put them in the ground beside veg plants so the roots get watered.

Yes, Sher is right! I’m a brute and used force and it came off! You have to pull hard on head and rock side to side at the same time. I was successful in brutalizing and reusing it.

A very fun craft idea for children: Glue a marble into the hole on the CD, then glue a bottle cap on top of it on one side, and you’ve got a fun TOP for kids to spin. Good for small motor skills, and good for lots of giggles! My boys love them! And they spin forever! :)

How can I recycle unused cigarette filters. I recently stopped smoking and have found a few boxes lying around. They come in boxes of 165, I am sure someone could come up with a crafty use for them. Unsure what they are actually made of but they melt in nail varnish remover.

I cut the fabric into different size circles, then gently/carefully melt the fabric round the edges of the circles. This stops any fraying and shapes the circles. Then sew them together in the centre and you have a flower- great for brooches , corsages or hair accessories

We have a wonderful store nearby called ReStore…you donate your usable materials/cabinets/etc and they resell and donate the profits to Homes For Humanity. Total Win-Win.

It might sound a bit harsh but, thinking about it in a utilitarian way, they should at very least have double glazed windows. Waste effects everybody, the attractiveness of Saltaire (which is great, I went to visit the brewery a couple of years back) is only going to benefit a fortunate few.

When I have any stones or such I take them out with me and throw them into the hedge rows. If they grow great, if something eats them great. If they rot down and provide feed for other plants -great.
Cannot say anything about avocados.

The drug companies simply have to come up a plan NOT to use pill bottles that can not be recycled. The average american get a half dozen or more amber bottle perscriptions each year, while those over 55 get twice that. Considering there are over 300 million Americans in the US that equals billions of pill bottles going into landfills yearly. OMG..what is wrong with this picture???

I just get a sieve with a bit of kitchen roll in and filter the oil back into a jug. Goes completely clean again no bother.

There’s a better way to make an avocado pit sprout and grow than the old toothpick method. Clean the avocado pit, and put it in a glass, covering 1/2 to 2/3 of the pit with water. After a few days, you can carefully remove the brown skin. It will make it sprout faster. Keep the pit in the same amount of water (change every few days), and within a month or two it usually starts to sprout. If you have two avocados, at least one of them likely will sprout. Once there’s some root you can plant it in a pot, or you can even wait until it starts to grow the plant part before planting.

I once helped some neighbours sell their entire kitchen on eBay – cabinets, work surface, appliances and all. They were updating the whole space and needed to start from stratch. The stipulation was that the buyer removed the units/work surfaces/appliances, etc and took them away under their own steam. And it worked. It wasn’t so much about making money from selling the kitchen, more so that it was still a perfectly useable set-up that would otherwise be going to landfill. Everyone was a winner – our neighbours had no need to break up the kitchen and dump it, no costs involved in hiring a skip or van in order to do so, and the buyer got a great kitchen for a relatively small outlay in time/money.

I think I will try to thread beads onto a spiral spine and then join the ends together to make a bracelet…I do like the idea of using the spiral to keep some of my computer cords under control as well.

I think you all need to know that my brother’s dog ate an avocado, seed and all. The dog had to be put down.

What have you recycled if you leave something around that could harm someone?

Unless that compost heap is dog-proof, I wouldn’t be putting any stones in it either!

hi i make my old cds into clocks they look good and i put pictures on them any design i want by cuting out pictures from magazines and glueing the picture on them and then puting a clock motor on them and fingers

Today I am pleased to say that a local British Heart Foundation charity shop took all my videos. The young assistant was extremely helpful and I hope they are able to make some money for their research.
