I have reclycled lots of fabric blinds in recent years. They can be made into table mats, coasters, pencil cases, make up bags, spectacle cases etc. or cover plant pots, tins, plastic containers, yogurt pots, ring binders, books, etc with the fabric using PVA. Also to make embellishments for handmade greeting cards. The fabric is much softer (and cleaner of course) if you machine wash it at 30 followed by a short spin. Cut it into manageable sizes first, bearing in mind what you want to use it for before cutting it and allowing extra for any shrinkage. Dry it flat, an outside table or bench on a sunny day is ideal. When dry it can be coloured with emulsion, written or drawn on with DVD pens, stitched with cotton, wool, silk. So many ideas…so little time LOL Hope this helps :-)

I am replacing my old fabric roller blinds soon and wondered if anyone had any good ideas for reusing the old cream ones. I was thinking of using them for craft and art activities with my grandchildren, but not sure about it!

Another use for used cooking oil is as a lubricant for a chain saw’s bar. It is environ friendly, lubes well, safer (operator not breathing in atomized petroleum oil)…and tests done by chain saw mfgrs concur it’s use. In some contries canola oil etc is mandatory as chain saw bar lubricant.

my jelly called for 8 cups of juice and I only add for ( grandson was hollin Granny Granny) did not relived it till next day! DARN!!!! so can it be fixed ?

I’ve had wonderful success turning old quilts into a new one. Choose a simple placement design for squares. Fussy cut each one, sew together with new but washed fabrics as sashing and you have a new quilt that still shows the original stitching on both sides as well as the vintage patina. I hope to find more old quilts to revitalize!

Hi folks just a quick update to let you know that we can no longer accept any unwanted audio or video tapes as we no longer have a place to store them but can I thank you all for your donations and kind words during the last couple of years that we (ACT) have been involved with the recycling of these items.
We have been responsible from keeping hundreds if not thousends of these items going to land fill so well done all!
We still how ever want any old photographic slides and 8mm film and you can send these to me at

You can use them for styling a garden. On a trip to Lisbon, Portugal, there’s a famous shipping household with external walls coated entirely in mussels embedded into the concrete. They’ve also creatively lined the earth with mussel shells between the long grass which is an amazing effect. Takes a while to store that amount of shells though.

I have a semi long haired moggie that I comb with a metal flea comb once or twice a day depending on the time of year. She loves being combed and as a result there is hardly any of her fur around the house and she hardly get fur balls to cough up. Her coat is very soft and shiny. I have noted that the saved hair makes a very very dense ball. I think you could make felt with it. In my case grey felt. Its very hard to pull apart a ball of this cat hair. I am sure if you keep small rodents that they would love to line their sleeping quarters with the stuff. A case of “snug as a bug”.
