How can I reuse or recycle bread bag tags?

Bread tagWe’ve had an email from Lyndall, saying:

hi, i was wondering if anybody knew what to do with bread tags. i hate throwing them away, but i don’t know what else to do with them. would welcome any suggestions.

We don’t really have them over here these days – shops seem to prefer those little sticky things that lose their stickiness (and therefore ability to seal the bag) after one opening but then still manage to attach themselves to your shoes/socks/cat and refuse to come off no matter how much you shake your foot/cat.

Anyway… bread tags/clips. I suspect they could just be reused as general plastic bag seals around the kitchen – but any other suggestions?

  1. Hi, we run a non profit art organization in Lancaster, Pa USA, and one of our artists is looking for as many bread tabs as possible, can anyone help?

I found a use for a limited number of bread tabs. We have a drawer for ‘wall warts’, those electronic cords with the transformer box as a plug. They are all different but sometimes not well labeled. I have taken bread tabs and written on them a code for the product they are for; ‘LG’ for LG phone, ‘KOD’ for Kodak camera, ‘KIN’ for Kindle. The tab says on the cord without damaging it. This way all you need to do is check the colored tab and you get the correct charger for your gadget.

In South Africa we have hundres of people and organizations collecting them for us. We send them to a recycling depot and use the money that they pay us to buy wheelchairs for the disabled. It takes 200 kilo’s of tags to buy one wheelchair! They can be mailed to us at P O Box 118, Plumstead, 7801, South Africa

    Hi Larisa
Lorna is right. These are the little plastic bread bag tabs, or clips, from Kwik Lok. It’s a great project and the team running it are really benefitting people. It’s known as the Bread Tags for Wheelchairs Project. The campaign bought 330 wheelchairs in 2012 alone in South Africa.
