When I lived in an apartment, the maintenance man would have to trim paint around the apartment complex. There were always large red wasps, he loved to swat them with tennis or badminton rackets, said they cut right into the wasps….I wouldn’t try it myself, though. I left them alone and they left me alone.

post them on freecycle.org – the posts are free there. Specify that strings are broken – I am sure there would be 2-3 people wanting them anyway, because it’s not that difficult to put new strings on.
You can also ask at a local school’s sports centre if they can make use of them – it would be much cheaper for the school to restring them then to buy new ones, and they wouldn’t care that much in school about the quality of the rackets.
